Acupuncture & Chinese Herbs
Acupuncture, one of the practices of Traditional Chinese Medicine, has been used to restore, promote, and maintain good health for about 2,500 years. It is based on an ancient philosophy that describes the two opposing forces of yin and yang that the universe and body operate within. The flow of energy throughout the body that serves to maintain a balance of these two forces is referred to as qi (pronounced “chee”). If there is a disruption in the flow of qi, this can lead to pain, imbalance, and illness.
Acupuncture can release blocked qi and evoke an innate healing response among several of the body’s connected physiological systems. Based on the principle that all systems are interconnected, it is very common that patients will experience relief and improvement in a concern that seems unrelated, or an overall sense of well-being while recovering from the specific concern under treatment.
Hundreds of clinical studies on the benefits of acupuncture have shown that this therapy can successfully treat a wide range of conditions. Acupuncture can be safely combined with any system of medicine and will often enhance the benefits of other medicines – which is why so many doctors appreciate their patients receiving acupuncture as part of their total recovery of health.
Our acupuncture care often may include cupping and moxibustion depending on individual need. Treatments may also involve acu-aromatherapy, which is the use of therapeutic grade essential oils combined like a Chinese herbal formula to stimulate acupuncture points, with or without the use of needles. These treatments can be especially useful for folks that are apprehensive of the needling technique applied in acupuncture, as well as children and teenagers.
