Ozone Therapy & Prolozone

What is Prolozone?

‘Prolozone’ is derived from the Latin word ‘proli’ which means to proliferate, regenerate, and rebuild. Prolozone therapy is so named because the treatment uses ozone gas combined with collagen-stimulating substances to regenerate and correct damaged joints, tissues, ligaments, and tendons. This generally results in complete injury recovery and the elimination of pain.

How does Prolozone Work?

The body responds to injury by delivering oxygen and the substances necessary to correct the tissue damage via blood circulation. In severe and chronic injury, oxygen and blood delivery to the region becomes compromised. Low levels of oxygen in tissue result in the accumulation of lactic acid, which is a source of pain in tissue injury.

Prolozone works by improving oxygen utilization in a localized area of damaged tissue, allowing it to heal and to restore full function. The injected ozone also increases the blood supply and delivery of critical nutrients that the tissues require to repair.

More importantly, it also stimulates the activity and deposition of fibroblasts and chondroblasts. These cells synthesize the collagen and cartilage necessary to strengthen the injured tissues; thereby stabilizing the area, improves circulation, and removing the cause of the pain. This is a uniquely effective treatment for the repair and tightening of lax structures including partially torn connective tissue and ligaments.

Prolozone is also very effective for osteoarthritis and degenerative joint disease. This therapy halts the pain/inflammation cycle. This allows for better circulation, increased blood flow carrying nutrition, and hydration of the damaged tissues. This allows for a healing environment within the joint to develop and results in increased range of motion and decreased pain.

Conditions that Can Be Treated with Prolozone

Prolozone is excellent for all forms of musculoskeletal and joint pain including chronic neck and back pain, rotator cuff injuries, degenerative and arthritic hips and knees, degenerated discs, and shoulder or elbow pain related to tendonitis.

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Chronic back or neck pain
  • Degenerated discs
  • Degenerative Joint Disease
  • Dental infections
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Golfer’s Elbow
  • Heel spurs
  • Herniated Discs
  • Neuromas
  • Non-union fractures
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Painful scars
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Post-surgical pain
  • Prosthetic joint pain
  • Rotator cuff injuries
  • Sciatica
  • Sinus infections
  • Sports injuries
  • Tennis elbow
  • Torn meniscus
  • TMJ Syndrome

Because in many cases prolozone actually corrects the pathology of the disorder, there is a 75% chance for the chronic pain sufferer to becoming permanently pain free.

Due to the local anesthetic and oxidative effects of the ozone gas, many patients experience an immediate reduction in their pain, even though it has been present for many years. The response to treatment varies among individuals depending upon one’s healing ability and the degree of injury. An average treatment course involves 3-5 sessions, more chronic or complex concerns may require additional sessions for a complete and corrected injury recovery.
